Shillingford Estates Limited (SEL) is a largely family owned Private Company established and operating in the commonwealth of Dominica (W.I.) for the past twenty (27) years engaged principally in Agriculture, Real Estate and Rum distilling. The company has been involved in Sugar Cane cultivation and Rum distillation for more than fifty (50) years, predating the establishment of SEL to 1980. Its Rums are traded under the brand name “Macoucherie”, the name of the Estate on which the distillery is located.
 
 
Shillingford Estates Limited is the agent of two companies:
 
  • Macoucherie Rum
  • Macoucherie Development

Macoucherie Rum

The Macoucherie Distillery sits in the Macoucherie valley on the west coast of the Dominica. The Island was a former British Colony, noted for its lush vegetation, and in tourism quarters is known as the “Nature Isle of the Caribbean”.
 
 
The rum distillery was established in the late nineteenth century by a French family, whose name remains unknown and cannot be found in the existing archives. Macoucherie Distillery was owned by the local family “the Royers” and was acquired by H.D. Shillingford in 1942, grandfather of the current Managing Director, Clifton “Dense” Shillingford.
 
 
Macoucherie rums are the only rums on the island distilled from pure sugar cane juice, still carrying the features which characterized sugar cane crushing in the eighteen and nineteenth centuries.
 
 
Macoucherie Development

It’s a Real Estate located on the West Coast of the island on the Caribbean Sea. It’s over looking the Ocean with a valley view and it’s about twenty minutes from the city.

Mission:

Macoucherie Rum Company exists to be the manufacturer of pure sugar cane juice Rum of the best quality in the Commonwealth of Dominica and the Caribbean influencing the World Wide Market.

  • To attend the acceptable standard of the International Rum Producers.
  • To have a well trained staff.
  • To create a viable, integrated sugar cane cultivation and rum distillation complex at Macoucherie

Philosophy:
 
 
  • Each employee shall be required to maintain an atmosphere congenial for the growth and development of the Macoucherie Rum Company
  • Good relations among members of staff and Management

Particular attention must be taken against immoral actions or conducts such as theft and harassments which may be deemed to affect moral and bring the company into disrepute.
